Making Electricity with Lemons
After our students learned about electricity as the moving of electrons, they got some hands-on time with some lemons, zinc, copper, wiring, and LED to see how it works for themselves! In case you're curious, when you put zinc in one end of a lemon, and copper in the other, the acid causes a chemical reaction with those two metals that releases and moves electrons, creating a small electrical current. Then using copper wires and clamps you can connect a tiny LED that lights up from the lemon's power. Nifty!
